Abstract

Herbal drug are used all over the world including traditional medi cinal sytems. Many traditional systems are using herbal medicine from old age. In the present study, different extract were prepared from leaves and flower of Cassia glauca and evaluated for membrane stabilizing, antimicrobial and antioxidant activities. The methods for the same were done by hypotonic induced haemolysis, well diffusion and DPPH methods respectively. Combined effect of leaves and flowers extracts of Caasia glauca were also checked for their synergestic effect at a ratio of concentration 1:1 (w/w). The results indicated that the maximum membrane stabilizing activity 55.53±0.83% was showed by methanol extract of flower. A significant inhibition zone in antibacterial activity was measured by combined methanol extract of flower and leaves, acetone extract showed maximum antifungal activity, and flower extract of methanol showed maximum antioxidant activity 92.55±0.41 %. Further investigation are needed for isolation of the bioactive principle.
