Abstract

Five novel chalcones were synthesized by condensing 2-hydroxy-acetophenone with hetero aromatic and aromatic aldehydes in dilute ethanolic potassium hydroxide solution at room temperature according to Claisen- Schmidt condensation, five flavones derivatives were prepared by cyclisation of 2-hydroxy Chalcones in the presence of DMSO/I2. Three 1, 3, 4-Thiadiazole derivatives also prepared by standard method and finally these derivatives are admitted for Schiff reaction with flavones derivatives to get 15 novel Schiff bases of Flavones. All these compounds were characterized by means of their IR, 1H NMR and Mass spectroscopic data. The antibacterial activity of these compounds was evaluated by the Paper disc diffusion method and the antifungal activity was done by Agar Plate Method.
